Canon PowerShot S230 3.2 MP Digital ELPH Camera with 2x Optical Zoom Review


I bought this camera almost 4 years ago, and I love it in every way. It takes great pictures, uses a rechargeable battery and is great on battery life. I go about 6 months without having to recharge the battery. I would say I take a medium amount of pictures.

Recently Dec. 2007, I went to go take a picture and the screen was blank with a few purplish lines running through it.. My icons showed up, but there wasn’t anything in the LCD. When viewing playback pictures, those pictures show up in the view finder. I recharged the battery and tried again, same thing. For a while, I thought I would have to get a new camera.

I called Canon support (for the other reviewer, I found the number very easy to find, 1-800-828-4040.) After going through their voice prompts, I got a customer service person right away. No wait! Plus, the rep was in Virginia, so there weren’t any of the typical issues that happen when customer support is located in India (like HP).

I described the problem, the rep helped me reset the camera, it worked for a few seconds. The rep told me to keep taking pictures for a few more seconds, because the fix may be temporary, and sure enough, the picture went blank again. (IMHO, most customer service departments would try to get me off the phone the second it started working again).

Long story short, there is a service advisory out on this camera, it turns out that the “image sensor” may malfunction. Canon is paying for the shipment back to them and they will fix it for free. No muss, no fuss. It didn’t even matter that I had the camera for almost 4 years. This was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had.

If your camera starts acting up like this, call Canon right away.

**update 1/12/08 ***
Canon was not able to fix my camera so they sent me a BRAND new one, a SD900 , a much much better camera. My camera was not under warranty anymore, but since it was the “image sensor” issue, Canon still covered it. Amazing customer service, very rare these days. They just earned a customer for life.

Digital Camera Ratings – Casio Exilim EX-V8

In trying to determine which of the many models to choose for a digital camera, it is helpful to have standardized reviews regarding the product. While consumer reviews are helpful to some extent, they are often less than specific about the details of the product. Using one of the online digital camera ratings sites will provide details about the important features of a particular camera in a quantitative format along with explanations of why the feature was rated as it was.

For instance, the digital camera ratings for the Casio Point and Shoot model EX-V8. The design of the from the front, back, top, bottom and each side is considered separately with the camera scoring well on each aspect except the design of the camera bottom. The camera carries a warning that the battery can cause overheating, which is not a good sign. The other design flaw on the V8 is the location of the tripod socket to one side which means the camera mounted on the tripod is unstable and crooked. The positive features of the camera include its slim design and the large LCD monitor.

The next step for the defining digital camera ratings for the Exilim is the performance. Some of the standard tests are for color, resolution, noise both at manual and auto settings, white balance at auto and manual settings, dynamic range and speed of operation. The color performance was tested at varying light levels. The V8 didn’t rank so well on any of the performance tests although the white balance test was well within satisfactory range, particularly at the automatic setting.

The video performance tests show similar levels as the still pictures with added influence in some areas.

A description of the components that make up the camera, including the viewfinder (there is none), the flash, the LCD screen and the zoom lens shows the V8 in good light with the zoom lens definitely a positive feature. The 7x zoom is higher than most point and shoot cameras, that average around 3x. Another benefit is that the zoom lens is built into the slim case so there is less chance of dirt or sand getting into the zoom mechanism.

All in all, the EXilim Ex-V8 is a good choice for the money and shows up very well in digital camera ratings. It’s very portable and provides excellent pictures for mid-skill level photographers.

Sanyo Digital Camera Reviews

Sanyo digital camera reviews for the Xacti S70 and the Xacti DMX CG65 look appealing. However, the cameras do not have enough user reviews to tell whether the cameras are worth the time or money. The S70 has a slick design with 7.0 megapixels with three times optical zoom. It has a two and a half inch viewing screen and face recognition technology. The camera has a automatic focus feature that reacts quickly making picture taking easy. The camera boasts about the fact that one set of alkaline batteries can take two hundred and fifty images.

The Sanyo digital camera reviews for the DMX CG65 are just as impressive, but once again, the camera has no user reviews so you judge the performance of the camera. This camera has 6.0 megapixels with five times optical zoom. The camera does use all the newest technology to make picture taking easy. The digital cameras do sound very intriguing, but without any user reviews, one will not know if the camera is all it says it is. You would need to check warranties and refund policies before buying any one of these digital cameras unless you judge by what the manufacturer has to say.

The Sanyo digital camera reviews are always good to use for doing comparisons of different makes and models. The reviews are very helpful when you are thinking about buying any digital camera. If you cannot find any reviews, you can always check the manufacturer’s reviews, but this will not give you any kind of idea as to how easy the camera is to use or if there are any problems. New cameras do not have reviews when they first come out, but you can still judge by the features and functions if you cannot find a user review to look at.

A relative newcomer to the massage chair industry is Sanyo. The first challenge for a relative newcomer is where to find them. This is extremely difficult, since Sanyo lacks distribution in brick and mortar stores. They are starting to find their way to internet dealers, but most customers have a hard time trying to find a place to try them. Shiatsu massage chairs have been on the market for 30 years. Sanyo entered the 30 year old massage chair market only a few years ago. The flagship model of the Sanyo line is the HEC-DR7700K Zero Gravity Massage Chair. The HEC-DR7700K Zero Gravity Massage Chair is retails for about $5,000.

First off, you are buying a chair for your needs. Second, the company that makes it is like your mother-in-law, it is just part of the package. You pick the chair like your spouse, but then the manufacturer becomes your mother-in-law. Now, of course, manufacturers vary (just because you are big does not make you better, kind of like mother-in-laws). So, Sanyo, your potential mother-in-law, how will she treat you, or how is their customer service? Sanyo has a 24/7 call center for warranty issues located in the US (sometimes a big plus if you speak English). Their service in our experience has been fine, with most issues resolved in a relatively short time.

Warranties that are longer and more comprehensive protects the customer and provides additional value. Whereas, shorter and less coverage gives the customer less confidence in the manufacturer. One would think Sanyo would have one a superior warranty. However, compared to the competition, Sanyo’s warranty is just plain weak. What is Sanyo’s warranty? 3 years on the roller mechanism, 1 year labor, 1 year parts. Sanyo did step up for in-home service for the first year. When your paying a $5,000 price tag, the warranty should be much stronger.

Officially, a zero gravity chair must recline back so your knees are above your heart. The HEC-DR7700K Zero Gravity shiatsu massage chair meets this requirement. In the zero gravity position, your weight is evenly distributed across your back. This takes the weight off your spine. This is a comfortable position. One can certainly relax before and after their massage.

The HEC-DR7700K has a built in Stiffness Detection Sensor based on lie detection technology. The Stiffness Detection Sensor can locate stress points on your back. By monitoring changes in your perspiration and pulse rate, it can pinpoint areas in need of attention and focus the massage in those areas.

Sanyo has a Physical Shape Sensor that adjusts the massage rollers to your body movements. As you move on the chair, so do the massage rollers to your new position. Sanyo has these intelligent rollers that adapt as you shift your body during the course of the massage.

Sanyo’s has an exclusive GK Roller Technology. The GK rollers have the capability to “reach out” of the massage chair. The reaching out is a great function for the neck and shoulders. Sanyo has added an extra thumb as part of the roller system. It is great to see 3 dimensional massage functions be incorporated to massage your neck and shoulders. These rollers extend out to give an extra dimension of massage sensation. Congratulations Sanyo on breaking into the 3 dimension robotic massage chair!

Ultimately, it is the massage that makes or breaks the chair. The Sanyo DR7700K has an arsenal of 83 combination manual massage courses, 5 automatic massage courses and 4 full body automatic courses. Choose from Grip, Shiatsu, Kneading, Tapping, Kneading & Tapping and various stretches. If that does not satisfy your needs, wait until your Sanyo shiatsu masseuse shows you her jointed massage head unit. This jointed massage head pushes outward to strongly grip your shoulders from above like a real masseuse. Now, that is what I am talking about. If you can find this chair to try, it is very satisfying. Sanyo’s flagship is a good, strong shiatsu massage chair recliner.

Sony DSC S700 Digital Camera

Design

Like all the other Sony cameras, Sony DSC-S700 camera is sleek and compact in size. It fits in any pocket. It weighs only 130 gm.

Controls

Sony DSC-S700 camera uses a typical control layout, which is seen in most of the cameras in its class. The mode dial and power switch are on top. On the back you will find a zoom rocker. The zoom rocker is a switch with four controls and an enter key too. The four way switch button is used for various functions such as exposure compensation, flash, macro and self-timer; and image quality/delete, review, display and menu buttons.
